Edition , May 2009
Winter is upon us but there is still plenty of activity. Our scholarship winner sets off soon for the USA and Europe whilst we're busy organising rides and promoting road safety.

Welcome to Amy Gillett Foundation e-news, providing news about cycling activities, events and road safety. The AGF is busy working to ensure that you, and those around you, are safe on the roads.

Amy's Ride

Here we come Canberra

Plans are progressing well to have our first Amy's Ride in Canberra in March 2010. To promote the ride, the AGF are putting together a team that will ride from Canberra to Melbourne in late November. This ride will also raise money for the foundation.

SA and VIC dates set

The next Amy's Ride in South Australia will be November 1 and in Victoria January 3.  Keep a look out on our events page and future newsletters for further updates.

What about other states?

We're working hard to get Amy's Rides off the ground in other states. Brisbane and Sydney are next on the list.

Amber in China

Amber, our 2009 AGF Sporting Scholarship winner, files her first article telling us what she has been up to since winning the award and where she's off  to next. Read her story

Cycling Events Calendar

Unfortunately the Ride to the Mountain with Cameron McConville won't be going ahead as planned due to Cameron's V8 and F1 commitments. Cameron is still keen to do the ride but 2010 is looking like a better option. We'll keep you informed.

Cycling News

Sadly there has been news recently of several incidents of cyclist deaths as a result of interaction with vehicles. The Amy Gillett Foundation extends its sympathies to those affected by these tragic events. It is a dreadful reminder of how dangerous our roads can be and how important a role the AGF has to play in making our roads safer.

Club 500 Changes

To encourage new members to the club we are introducing gold and silver levels of membership, gold members donating $1000 per year and silver members donating $500 per year. Silver members will receive the AGF jersey; Gold members will receive, in addition to the jersey, AGF branded bib knicks. $1,000 can cover the cost of 13,000 Road Right flyers or maintain our website for 6 months so your help is very important.

We've also introduced a referral program for members. When five people or organisations sign-up to Club 500 and nominate you as their referee you will be offered a choice of free entry and accommodation for two in one of our annual Amy’s Rides, or a ‘money can’t buy’ experience such as a training ride and lunch with Australian cycling legend Phil Anderson.
