Melbourne To Bathurst Charity Ride

The Amy Gillett Foundation is very pleased to be the benefiting charity of the “Ride to The Mountain” in 2009. The ride will be hosted by V8 driver Cameron McConville along with the AGF and will involve over 750km of riding over six days in early October, a week prior to the Bathurst 1000. With additional activities being organised, this will be more an adventure than a ride.

As a Fundraising ride we are looking for interested individuals or Companies who would like to participate in this ride and help raise money for the AGF’s programs of road safety for cyclists. For more details please contact Tony Fox at the AGF on 03 9863 7041.

Safety Tips

We had an interesting question recently from South Australia requesting clarification of the legal application of riding two abreast on the road and how this applies when bike lanes are present.

Australian Road Rules state "The rider of a bicycle riding on a length of road with a bicycle lane designed for bicycles travelling in the same direction as the rider must ride in the bicycle lane unless it is impracticable to do so."

South Australia has the additional ruling "Where there is insufficient room for two riders to ride abreast in a bicycle lane, you must ride in single file. You must not ride outside a bicycle lane abreast of another rider in a bicycle lane during the bicycle lane operating times".

Cycling News

A new bike-way is to be named after Amy Gillett. The South Australia Government has announced the new 32 km shared use path that will run through the Adelaide Hills from Oakbank to Mount Pleasant on a disused rail-line.

Amy’s family, along with the AGF, are proud to know that the South Australian Government holds Amy, and the work being conducted by the AGF in her name, in such high esteem
