Dear Friend of the Foundation,
Wow! Delivering a major event on the New Year’s Day public holiday with a forecast 40+ temperature day was always going to represent a challenge. Our two priorities were the wellbeing of the 2000+ riders and that of our fabulous volunteers and event crew; this is where we placed much of our efforts.
From all accounts, the heat contingency deterred few riders. We thank the many riders who responded to our heat contingency plans. For all who completed their chosen ride, we hope you have had the chance to reflect and acknowledge your achievement! Even for those whom the conditions prevailed, you too should feel a sense of achievement in showing true strength and determination!
And for those who had registered but chose to avoid the heat and wind, we thank you for your support towards the Foundation and hope to see you participating again in the future.
Amy’s Ride Geelong was made possible through a dedication team including event delivery partners Cycling Events DownUnder, Cycling Australia and Big Fish Your Pond, government and corporate partners, all suppliers and service providers, traffic management and emergency services organisations and the super crew of volunteers for what was an amazing effort in 43 degree heat.
When the temperature soared, all credit must go to the Emergency Response Team, volunteers along the course and at aid stations, and deployment of all event logistics personnel to aid riders and provide vital support to those for whom the heat got the better of them.
Please take the opportunity to provide your feedback and stories from the event in the survey link below. We love reading about people’s experiences and how events such as these make a difference in people’s lives, and importantly how we can deliver a great experience that drives our vision for Safe Bicycling in Australia.
Thank you again for your support of the Amy Gillett Foundation and helping to promote bicycling safety.
Safe riding,
